I’m beyond excited to introduce you to Nineh Irving of Pilates with Nineh, who I’ve come to absolutely adore. Nineh has been a NYC-based pilates instructor for the last year, but has recently relocated to Puerto Rico and continues to teach virtually from her new sunny home. She also has a Substack called ‘Nin’s Notes’ - definitely worth subscribing to.
I’m so excited to put Nineh on your radar.
Tell us a little bit about who you are and how you started your business?
Hi! I’m Nineh Irving, a full-time Mat Pilates instructor. I started my teaching journey in NYC and just recently made the move to San Juan, PR at the start of 2025! Before that, I was a professional ballet dancer in Texas for four years right out of high school. When I eventually moved to NYC, I jumped into the fitness industry as a part-time job and then continued to work in many different fields. Pilates had always been part of my life, it was a huge part of my cross-training as a dancer, so transitioning into teaching felt completely natural. In February 2024, I decided to leave my event production career and go all in to make pilates my full-time career, and that’s when Pilates with Nineh was born!
Do you have a wellness philosophy you live by?
Yes. Simplify everything. There’s so much wellness noise out there, and honestly, a lot of it is unnecessary. Over the past year, I’ve stripped everything back to the basics - drinking water, eating real whole foods, and moving my body in ways that feel good. The more I simplify what it means to be “healthy,” the less overwhelming it becomes.
Any pilates or exercise tips you wish more people knew?
Faster is not better! While I mostly teach Pilates sculpt and I’m certified in contemporary Pilates, my foundation is in classical Pilates. I always come back to Joseph Pilates' original principles, control, precision, and length. I see so many sculpt classes turning into HIIT workouts, but true Pilates is all about slow, controlled, low-impact movements. And trust me, your body loves that. You’ll actually get the results you’ve been looking for when you stop rushing through the movements!
What’s a non-negotiable habit you swear by?
My morning routine. But my version of a morning routine, not the one influencers are pushing with 5 a.m. wake-ups, 10 different supplements, and an hour-long walk before sunrise. I’ve learned to make my routine work for me and allow it to shift through different seasons of my life. Right now, it’s super simple: I get up as soon as my alarm goes off, do some mindful breathing or a short meditation, and a quick 5-minute EFT tapping session. That’s it! Anything beyond that is a bonus.
One product you’re loving lately?
Sunscreen! I know, not the most exciting answer, but since moving to the Caribbean after surviving NYC winters, I’ve been slathering on the Beauty of Joseon Daily Relief Sunscreen (SPF 40) . It's lightweight, hydrating, and honestly a lifesaver in this sun.
Any new projects or offerings coming that you’re excited about?
Yes! I’m really excited to keep growing my on-demand Pilates platform. I upload different types of Pilates classes, making it perfect for anyone who travels a lot or has a busy schedule but still wants to stay consistent with their practice.
How can we work with you and follow along your journey?
You can find me on Instagram @PilatesWithNineh and check out my On-Demand Platform, (Pilateswithninehnyc.com), where I offer a variety of Pilates classes to keep you consistent no matter your schedule!
